There are three main airports in Oman. The names of the three major Oman airports are the Khasab Air Base, Salalah Airport and the Seeb International Airport. The Khasab Air Base which is one of the most important airports in Oman is located in the city of Khasab in Oman. The Khasab Air Base is served by the Oman Air which operates flights to Muscat. The Salalah Airport is amongst the other airports in Oman which is responsible for much of the air navigation in the country. The airport is a joint airport that is serves both the Military as well as for Public use. The airport accounts for a singicant number of Middle East flights.
The Salalah Airport is operated by Oman Airports Management Company which serves the city of Salalah. This airport is a gateway of Sultanate of Oman. The Salalah Airport is located in the Salalah coastal plain which is situated at a distance of 5.5 kilometers in the northeast direction of the heart of the Salalah city. This is amongst the most used domestic airports in Oman. In the Khareef season, the maximum number of Oman flights is received in the Salalah airport. There are a number of charter flights which come from the neighboring countries of the Gulf countries and many other cities of the world.

Currently, the Salalah Airport is in the stage of expansion and renovation and is expected to be completed by the year 2010. After the renovation and expansion, the new terminal of the airport will be in a position to accommodate as many as 2 million passengers every year. After the completion of the construction works in the airport the airport will be able to handle as many as 10 million passengers. In the year 2006, the airport saw an increase in the passenger traffic as well as the civilian aircraft traffic. The airlines that serve this airport are Air India Express, Gulf Air, Jazeera Airways, Saudi Arabian Airlines and Oman Air.

The Seeb International Airport which is also known as the Muscat International Airport serves the purpose of both Military and Public. This airport is operated by the Oman Airports Management Company and is located in the city of Muscat in Oman. The airport serves as the hub of Oman Air which is the country’s national carrier. The airport is currently under expansion and modernization. It is expected that the airport will be able to handle 12 million passengers in the initial stage which would be gradually increased to 48 million.
