A need for establishment of an airport in faroe Islands was felt as it was not possible from the neighboring waterbodies to keep a watch over the warships in Germany.

In the following years the Vagar Airport has changed a lot.In 2002, the construction of a toll road was completed which connects Streymoy Islands with the help of a tunnel. From 1st May, 2007, this major airport of Faroe Islands came under the control of Danish Civil Aviation Authority. The airport is on its way to expand and further development.
