Airports in Korea(North)

The aviation industry in North Korea gets support from the various Airports in Korea(North). North Korea Airports are not many but all are very significant as they are the major aspects of transportation into the country of North Korea and also within the country. The major Airports in North Korea are Chongjin Airport, Sunan International Airport and Haeju Airport. Their primary function is passenger transportation and cargo transportation.

These airports facilitate the travel of hundreds and hundreds of passengers and goods. Many people come to the country for visiting the various tourist attractions and many come for business reasons. The Airports in Korea(North) are served by many domestic and international airlines.

Chongjin Airport is locally known as Orang Airport, and is one of the most important Airports in Korea(North). Though the airport is not very big, it has great significance. The airport is situated at a distance of about 40 kilometers from Chongjin, North Hamgyong, North Korea. The airport was constructed by the Imperial Japanese Army, and is presently under the control of the Korean's People's Army. Though this airport is basically for the use of the army, some civil flights too operate through this airport. Rason is also served by the airport, as it is separated by an hour and a half's drive. There is a single runway which is about 2000m in length. Plans have been chalked out to extend it to 4000m. The airport is served by Air Koryo.

Sunan International Airport is the major airport in the country of North Korea. Sunan International Airport serves Pyongyang, situated at a distance of 24 kilometers from the center of the city. The airport boasts of two runways, the bigger one is served by a number of international flights. The relatively smaller one is served by domestic flights. The airport's time of operations vary during summer and winter. The airport is Air Koryo's primary hub, the only airline that serves the airport regularly. Some airlines discontinued services but some operate charter flights to and from the airport.
Some of the airlines that offer charter flights are Mandarin Airlines, Far Eastern Air Transport, Korean Air and Asiana Airlines. The services and facilities offered by the airport includes business center, car park, duty free store, facilities for the disabled, passenger lounge, taxi stand, restaurant, bar, Korea Trade Bank, and many shops selling souvenirs. Baggage storage facility and a book shop are also present at the airport. These Airports in Korea(North) are very beneficial to domestic people as well as to foreigners.
