A part of the parent company Virgin Group, Virgin Blue started with its operations with only a few cities. Although, it was initially held completely by Virgin Group, as of date a majority of the company's stake is held by Toll Holdings. Virgin Blue also has a wholly owned subsidiary named Pacific Blue, which offers similar flights in the country of New Zealand. From its birth in 2000, Virgin Blue did not any marketing alliances with any other airline. It was in the year, 2001 that Virgin Blue entered into an agreement with United Airlines, which opened doors for the United customers to fly from America to any of the airline's Australian destinations. November 2007, is also significant in the history of the airline, when it entered into an interline deal with international airlines, Garuda Indonesia, to serve international flights to various destinations.

Operations of Virgin Blue Airlines: Headquartered in the city of Brisbane, the Virgin Blue Airlines has quite a good number of principal aviation hubs from where it operates. These are the Melbourne Airport, Kingsford Smith International Airport in Sydney, Brisbane Airport and Adelaide Airport . Although the current fleet size of Virgin Blue is 52, the company has already ordered for 25 more airlines. Flying in 25 different destinations, the airlines is famed for its good services.
