Welcome to Qantas Airways Ltd, the national airline of Australia, Oceania. The original name of this #1 airline was QANTAS, an acronym that stands for “Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services”. The Qantas Airways Ltd is based in Melbourne and Sydney and ranks as the largest Australian airline. Qantas Airways Limited is the second oldest continuously running airline in the whole world, after Dutch-based airline KLM, founded in October 1919. In the year 2007, Australia’s Qantas was voted as the world’s fifth best airline by the research consultancy Skytrax. But in 2005 and 2006, Qantas has been voted in the second position. Qantas boasts the largest fleet in the whole world comprising 218 planes. Destinations of Qantas Airways Ltd include 81 destinations in the world’s 5 continents. Future plans of the airline company announce its expansion plans to South America by November 2008 when direct flights will fly to Santiago. The company also has future plans for launching flights to Dubai within the next three years once company includes the A380 superjumbo in its huge fleet.

Fleet of Qantas Airways Ltd

The present fleet of Qantas Airways Ltd comprises the following aircrafts: Airbus A330-200, Airbus A330-300, Airbus A380-800, Boeing 737-400, Boeing 737-800, Boeing 747-300, Boeing 747-400, Boeing 747-400ER, Boeing 767-300ER, and Boeing 787-9. Qantas currently has an order of adding some more airlines to its fleet that includes: 20 Airbus A380s, 3 Airbus A330-200s, 65 Boeing 787s, 68 A320/A321, and 31 Boeing 737-800s. Qantas, along with its subsidiaries operate 213 aircraft, out of which 28 aircraft are by Jetstar Airways and 49 by the different QantasLink brands. The customer code for Qantas is 38. Since the year 1926, Qantas have named their aircraft. The themes of aircraft naming included name of stars, Greek gods, people from the history of Australian aviation, and even Australian birds.

Qantas possess two aircraft that have been painted in Australian Aboriginal art liveries, one is the Wunala Dreaming, and the other is Yananyi Dreaming. Both these colorful aircraft carry outstanding, colorful liveries that have been designed by Australian Aborigines. Initially, there was also a third livery known as Nalanji Dreaming, but was sold in the year 2007 for spare parts. All the passenger flights of Qantas have in-flight entertainment for their passengers, including television programs, movies, music, news and also the flight magazine The Australian Way.
