Eurowings AG, a German airline, has its base in Dortmund. Earlier the travel and airline industry, and the Nuremberg Flight Service since the year 1975 used to operate flights in Dortmund. Both of these companies were merged to form Eurowings Luftverkehrs AG in 1993. 98.2% of Eurowings was primarily acquired by Dr. Albrecht Knauf. Eurowings afterward started offering its services from some regional airports of Germany to Paris and Amsterdam, in collaboration with Air France and KLM. Deutsche Lufthansa AG initially 24.9% share of Eurowings AG and by the 1st of April in 2004, Lufthansa managed to purchase 49% share of this airline company. Since the 22nd of December, 2005 Lufthansa and one of the trustees, who has most of its shares, are the owners of majority of the shares of Eurowings AG and are thus the primary decision makers regarding the management of Eurowings. Germanwings, a low cost airline of Germany, is completely owned by Eurowings AG. Eurowings GmbH, which was established in 1997, was renamed to Germanwings GmbH on the 27th of October in 2002. The regional flights operated by Eurowings AG are marketed by Lufthansa. The fleet of Eurowings AG comprises 17 Bombardier CRJ-200LR, 10 BAe 146-300, 5 BAe 146-200 and 2 Bombardier CRJ-700.
