One of the important countries in Eastern Europe, Bulgaria has immense political and economic significance in the region. Bulgaria boasts of the four international airports. The biggest and most important airport in the country is the Sofia Airport. Some of the major global airliners who have a presence in Bulgaria include British Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Aeroflot, Lufthansa and the domestic airline major Bulgarian Airlines.
| Another of the major Bulgarian airports is Plovdiv International Airport. Based in close proximity to the popular European ski resort of Pamporovo it receives a good number of travelers and ski lovers from all parts of the world. The other international airports of Bulgaria are based at Varna and Bourgas respectively. Both these airports are used mostly for local flights from Sofia, as well as chartered flights during the summer. These airports serve the beach resorts of cities at Varna and Bourgas on the Black Sea coast.

Bulgaria primarily attracts tourists from many parts of Europe. Also, the number of business travelers visiting Bulgaria is also on the rise. With business environment getting better and Bulgaria emerging as an important business destination in the region, the air traffic to the country has also shown impressive improvements. That is why, the number of international airliners to Bulgaria too have increased their frequency to the country. The aviation infrastructure too has got a fillip with the airports getting a makeover and facilities becoming better. From the hanger for the airplanes, to the restaurant within the airport, shopping facilities to aerobridges and engineering and maintenance services for the airliners, all have seen a marked improvement in Bulgaria in recent times.
