Air Andaman

The Air Andaman is one of the airlines which used to operate in Thailand. There are a good number of airlines which offer domestic and international flights in Thailand to passengers and till recently Air Andaman was one of them. The airline was established in the year 2000 and became operational on 29th October, 2000. Though the airline had tremendous business potential, it became defunct by 2004 year end. In the month of March, 2006 the license of Air Andaman was withdrawn by the Thai government.

History of Air Andaman

Air Andaman became operational towards the end of the year 2000. With the deregulation of aviation transport by the Thai government, the airline was one of the earliest few to cash in on the opportunity. The “Open Skies” policy of the Thai government came into vogue from September, 2000. The Air Andaman used to operate domestic flights to various locations within the territorial confines of Thailand. Few years in the operation, Air Andaman failed to capitalize well on the available opportunities and was forced to close down.

Fleet of Air Andaman

When the airline was operational, it used to offer flights on 3 Fokker F50 aircrafts and on 2 BAe Jetstream aircrafts. The Fokker F50 aircrafts were based in the city of Bangkok and the Bae Jetstream in Chiang Mai.

Destinations of Air Andaman

In terms of operations to various destinations, Air Andaman used to offer services to some of the popular domestic cities in Thailand. The domestic air route between the city of Bangkok and Phuket was quite popular at that time.

The international flights of Air Andaman airline took the passengers from Singapore to Thailand. The domestic network of the airline extending from Bangkok to Chiang Mai covered 13 separate destinations in the country of Thailand.

The impact of Air Andaman

In the limited span of its operations on major destinations in and around Thailand, Air Andaman left off a mark. Its winding up indicated the tough road ahead for the smaller aviation players. Though there is a great opportunity in the field of aviation, yet small players have a long way to go. Also, there is a high degree of competition in the aviation sector. Airlines that do better on account of restructuring, cost cutting and operational efficiency are likely to consolidate and make it big. Since Air Andaman could not capitalize on the available opportunities, it had to wind up its operations though it paved the way for other smaller airliners who ca take a cue and manage their operations more effectively.
