Papua New Guinea |
Papua New Guinea's gateway is Jackson's International Airport some 8 kilometers from the town center of Port Moresby. If you are traveling to Papua New Guinea a 60 day Tourist Visa is available when you arrive in Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea at a reasonable fee of Kina 100.00. You can exchange your money at Jackson Airport. Mt Hagen Provincial Airport has been declared International Port of entry as around the Highland provinces there are mining activities.
In Papua New Guinea, transportation is mostly by air. Both Air Nuigini and Airlines PNG have domestic services to at least 11 airports. Both airlines also link the island nation with the Australian mainland, seven days a week.
The modern aircraft fleet of Air Nuigini consists of a Boeing B767 for international routes and Fokker F-100, F-28 jets and Dash 8 aircrafts, ideal aircrafts for the Papua New Guinea terrain. There is also a Fokker F100 flight daily to Cairns in Australia.
| Papua New Guinea is all tropical, just south of Equator and 160 kilometers to Australia's north. It forms the eastern part of New Guinea Island, the second largest island in the world,
Air Nuigini Pty Limited is National Airline of Papua New Guinea established in 1973. Thanks to the airline, Air Nuigini, today one can see the spectacular Highland regions, experience the mighty Sepik River and partake of the rich history and culture of the coastal villages.

The days leading to the airlines formation were not easy. A historical agreement in the Australian Parliament decided that a single national airline would be formed to take over Papua New Guinea's country services and it would also compete on Australia-Port Moresby route too.
"Air Niugini" was proposed as the new name. Niugini is the standard New Guinea's Pidgin English spelling. In the initial days, the Papua New Guinean government had a 60 per cent stake with Qantas and Trans Australian Airways (TAA) taking 12 per cent stake each and the remaining 16 per cent being Ansett's share.
There are good roads connecting the Northern zone with the Highlands region. Cars are available for hire or rental, local boats and ferries exist and in larger town there are taxis and local buses. If you want to reach the airport in Papua New Guinea you can hire the cars. But it is to be noted that the rugged terrain does not allow any road link from the Northern Zone to the capital Port Moresby.
