The Shangri-La Air is one of the major airlines that have its base in the country of Nepal. The Shangri-La Air has a significant contribution in operating flights in Nepal. The airline company merged with the company Necon Air in the year 2001. The Necon Air came down as a defunct in the year 2003. The airline came into existence in the year 1999. In the year 2001 the Shangri La Air worked in coordination with the Karnali Air, which was only a part of the ‘operational merge’ with the airline company of Necon Air. The Shangri-La Air operates flights in numerous cities of Nepal and these include Pokhara, Lukla, Jomsom, Phaplu, Bharatpur, Bhairahawa, Rumjatar and Simara.
On 22 August 2002, a Shangri-La Air De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter 300, which was flying from Jomsom to Pokhara crashed midway on a hill which had been completely covered by cloud for three days due to continuous rain.
There were 3 crew and 15 passengers on board in the plane all of whom were killed. The Shangri-La Air consists of 4 De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter and 2 Beechcraft. One of the important things about Shangri-La Air is that it is a private Airlines company that has been duly registered with the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.
