Air Koryo Korean Airways is referred to as Air Koryo in short. This particular airline is owned by the state of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. It is, in fact the national airline. In the initial years of its inauguration, Air Koryo was regarded as Chosonminhang Korean Airways (CAAK). It was inaugurated so that it can succeed what is called SOKAO. SOKAO is the collaborative Soviet-North Korean airline that was founded in the year of 1950. CAAK started its operations with Antonov An-2, Ilyushin Il-12 aircraft as well as with Lisunov Li-2. Jet operation started in the year of 1975.

Air Koryo is the only aviation entity of the country of North Korea. It helps in the transportation of the officials of the government organizations. As North Korea's sole aviation entity, Air Koryo is responsible for the overseas transportation of government officials. It demands to provide domestic services added to the international flights.
