The Hokkaido Intl Airlines was one of Japan's first low-cost airlines. After two years of losses, the airline entered a code-sharing agreement with All Nippon Airways, and now has the same general fare structure as the majors.

Hokkaido is the northernmost of Japan's four main islands. Hokkaido is dominated by its climate and geography. Home to Japan's aboriginal Ainu race, Hokkaido continues to represent the untamed wilderness with many great national parks. For many visitors the scenery resembles northern Europe, with rice paddies and concrete warrens replaced by rolling fields and faux-German cottages.

While Sapporo is the 5th largest city in Japan with a population of 1,800,000. It is at 43 N. latitude and 141 E. longitude on Hokkaido, the northernmost main island of the Japanese archipelago, which stretches from southwest to northeast. When people visit Sapporo, the first thing they may see is the New Chitose Airport which is actually a 35-minute train ride from Sapporo.

Sapporo Airport which is commonly known as Okadama Airport is located in the northeastern area of Hokkaido's capital city of Sapporo. It is approximately 12 km or a 20-minute drive from downtown Sapporo.
