Located very close to India, Burma and Myanmar in the Southern part of Asia, Bangladesh is a large and beautiful country. Officially known as the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the country is located in the Northern part of Bay of Bengal. Bangladesh shares its borders on almost all sides with India and a small border in the South with Burma and Myanmar. Along with West Bengal, the East Indian state, Bangladesh forms the ethno-linguistic region of Bengal. It is the only country in the world, where the official language is Bengali and that's why the country has been named as Bangladesh, which means Country of Bengal.

Speaking about Bangladesh it is necessary to mention something about the history of the nation. Before the division of Bengal made by Lord Curzon in the beginning of 20th century, the geographical area of present Bangladesh was a part of India. After the independence of India in 1947, Bangladesh became a part of Pakistan, one of the closest neighbors of India and at that time the country was known as East Pakistan. Bangladesh gained its independence from Pakistani rule in the year 1971 when the Pakistani Army surrendered after a fierce battle. Both India and USSR had a major contribution in Bangladesh's victory and independence. Located on the northeastern bank of River Buriganga, Dhaka is the now the capital and the largest city in Bangladeh.

Though, since its independence in the year 1971, Bangladesh has faced political turmoil several times including military coups in four separate occasions, the country has got a stable economy. The economy of Bangladesh is dependent mainly on its agricultural outputs and the country earns huge revenue from the export of fish. Apart from that industries like manufacturing and textile are also major contributors to the economy of Bangladesh. Bangladeshi textile products, especially sarees are highly in demand all over India. Bangladesh has also got a good trade relation with close neighbors and carries import and export trading operations on regular basis. Apart from these tourism is also one of the leading and fastest growing industries in Bangladesh.

Thanks to its unique geographical location and abundance of natural assets like rivers, mountains and some part of the Bay of Bengal. Bangladesh is one of the most beautiful countries in this part of Asia and attracts thousands of international tourists throughout the year with its breathtaking scenic beauty. Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Bangladesh. Historical and archaeological sites that are scattered all over this city and its surrounding areas remain thickly crowded with tourists almost in every season. Other tourist attractions in Bangladesh include Patenga Beach, Cox Bazaar, Chittagong Hill Tracts and lot of religious places.

Speaking about tourism in Bangladesh it is necessary to mention here that traveling in this country is very easy for the outsiders, thanks to the easy availability of transport service. Bangladesh has got a very well developed infrastructure for road, rail water and air transportation. Recently train services between Bangladesh and India has been resumed and buses are available on a daily basis. Besides, Bangladesh has got several domestic and international airports that are served by lot of domestic and international airlines.
