History of Khalifa Airlines

This airline provided excellent service in the initial years. It had around 30 aircrafts in its fleet in the beginning. But the flight began to suffer a major setback afterwards especially in 2003, when number of flights in function were recorded only 12. Pegasus and Lufthansa, the two notable airlines decided to discontinue their contract with the Khalifa Airlines which were going through a tough time then. These airlines claimed back their aircrafts which they had given on lease to Khalifa Airlines and cancelled the orders they have placed. A new administrator was appointed by the bank of Algeria to look after the current situation of Khalifa Bank whose owner was Abdelmoumene Rafik Khalifa. After a careful analysis of the existing conditions of the airlines, the administrators refused to provide adequate funds so that the former can clear off all the payments.
In April 2003, Khalifa Airlines was compelled to cease operation of the remaining 8 flights as the contract of the lease was no more extant. This airlines which showed a great prospect at the moments of its inception was neutralized by a French court as it counld not pay its debt to the creditors which amounted to 5 million Euro. The International Herald Tribune held the owner of the company responsible for the decline of Khalifa Bank and its associates which also included Khalifa Airlines. The founder of the bank was given life imprisonment in the year 2007.
